Battleon Briefing Vol. 15

Trick or treat, Heroes! *dramatically drops down from the ceiling in a shower of bats, candy corn, and a questionable confidence about gravity.* Welcome back to the Battleon Briefing, your weekly dose of game development goodness and behind-the-scenes shenanigans. This week we’re getting ready for Mogloween… and revisiting a piece of AQW history that officially makes us feel older than Gravelyn's family drama. It’s time to gather ‘round the cauldron and see what the team’s been brewing!

Celebrating 18 Years of Mogloween in AQWorlds

Back in 2008, we were just a small indie team welcoming Heroes into Mystcroft for the very first time. Today, some of you have been adventuring through Lore for nearly two decades alongside us!! Others might be brand-new recruits who still think a Moglin is a fancy kind of muffin… and, to be fair… there ~is~ a cupcake Moglin 🧁

Well, no matter what level you are (or whether you prefer your Moglin with sprinkles), you’re in the right place! We've got monsters to trick, candy to collect, stories to share, and development updates to unwrap. Let’s ghoul!

Behind the Scream Scenes

The Infinity team has been BUSY — and by busy, I mean the kind of busy where your coffee needs a coffee and your to-do list has its own to-do list. Here's what our well-caffeinated Battleon battalion has been up to!

🧌 Monster Panel UI = COMPLETE! You’ll be able to inspect a monster and check out all its loot information. Because chances are you want to know ~what~ a monster drops BEFORE you spend 42 minutes introducing your sword to its face.

💬 Chat Command UI = UNDERWAY! Diogon masterminded the idea, Tutulio handled the wiring, and PineOak polished the whole thing. The Chat Command UI is planned for release this week, so keep those eyeballs peeled (preferably attached) and those fingers at the ready.

📲 In-App Purchases = SPARKLY! Pixel Pete completed the in-app purchase frontend, and the design is looking great. The next step is setting up the actual products so you’ll be able to purchase all kinds of things directly inside the game.

🎁 Daily Login Rewards = WORK IN PROGRESS! Because let's be honest: logging in to find free loot waiting for you is WAY better than opening a present from your aunt and discovering she's knitted you another pair of itchy underwear. Thanks, Auntie, but… my inventory is full.

🐛 Artix's Big Ol' List of Bugs Volume III = FINISHED! But don't celebrate too early, Heroes. We all know bugs spawn faster than Sneevils at a boxing match. Heh, get it? :p The team is continuing to squash, fix, and improve things as game development marches onward.

Item Conversion Process Progress

If you’ve been following the previous Battleon Briefings (which I sincerely hope you have!), then you’ve already heard about Spider’s incredible item conversion tool that’s able to convert complicated Flash assets into less-complicated-but-freakin-fabulous Unity files.

The team is now working on a process that converts special effects and animations while checking how each asset performs. As each item undergoes conversion, the tool evaluates whether it meets the required performance threshold. If it passes, CONVERT AWAY!

Buuuut if it doesn’t, the system can fall back to a flat PNG instead, helping prevent poorly performing items from making their way into this amazing looking game.

Because looking fantastic is important — obviously!! 💃 —  and looking fantastic ~while~ your game runs smoothly is even fantasticer!

The conversion process is now preforming at a 70% success rate, which is hugely impressive considering no one in the history of forever has EVER tried teaching Unity to speak fluent Flash. Some trickier assets still need manual conversion, and the team expects to optimize the process further as testing continues. Warlic kicked off this process last week, with in-house testing planned to begin next week once we’ve got enough candy in our bellies to sugar-rush our way to Frostval, where our sugar will have sugar and sprinkles AND that cupcake Moglin will finally have some competition.

Next on the To-Do List’s To-Do List

  • Guild Houses! Time to start thinking about where you'll hang your armor, display your trophies, and inevitably leave 400 swords lying on the floor. Classic guildie behavior.
  • Bank of Lore (BoL)! What is this?! And how is it different than our normal bank!? I have questions. And coffee. And SUGAR!!!
  • Daily Quests! Actually, we’re working on dailies and weeklies and monthlies! Those last two look so weird written down, huh?
  • Daily Login Rewards! We already talked about these, but they're worth celebrating twice ~because~ FREE things deserve double the attention.
  • Multi-Quest Tracking! Tunik has started working on this to help bring more quest-related functionality into the mix.
  • Wars! Big battles, bigger rewards, and the sort of craziness that requires a LOT of healing potions.
  • World Map Improvements! Tulio started working on improving Infinity's world map system, focusing on better functionality and features for our players, and also backend dev stuff that’ll make it WAY easier for the team to build and maintain. Everybody wins! Well, except maybe the monsters waiting at your destination. They probably have some objections.

Artix's Car Has Been... Totally Totaled!?

In news that is decidedly NOT a critical hit against the monsters of Lore...

Artix’s car has fallen to 0 HP and will not respawn 🪦

Last week, Artix was in a hit-and-run accident. Thankfully, no one was hurt, including Artix’s child who was also in the car, and that's what matters the most. His car tanked ~all~ the damage, and we're incredibly grateful that everyone is safe. Unfortunately, with his car out of commission, getting around has become a bit more complicated.

So what's the plan? Well, since the majority of HOAs do not allow dragons (pffft, archaic bylaws, I know 🙄), this means… *cue dramatic boss music*…

Artix: “I’m stuck at home!”

Also Artix: “Wait… this is AWESOME! More time to work on Infinity!"

In all seriousness though, we are super glad everyone is okay. Cars can be replaced… but people cannot. Stay safe out there, Heroes, and give your fellow adventurers, family, friends, and little ones a little extra kindness today, because we only get 1 life in this IRL Roguelike, y’know?

And now onto the next point, which is NOT to be confused with Car Crasher…

CardClasher and the Battleon Battle Deck Card Game

*Shuffles deck aggressively. Accidentally launches three cards into the ceiling fan. Pretends this was all part of the strategy.*

You’ve been waiting 15 years for this moment to happen, Heroes… even if you didn’t know it was a thing beforehand 🤭… and the time is finally here! The 100% crazy, non-stop-action, anything-goes fantasy card game is BACK, and the tabletop mayhem is ready to begin!!!

The Battleon Battle Deck Card Game comes with everything you need for 2–4 players to battle it out wherever you go. Game night? Check. Study session? Check. Friendly competition that absolutely, positively will NOT ruin your friendships?

…heh, we cannot guarantee that last one.

Need even more chaos? Say no more.

Mix in the CHAOS and DOOMWOOD Mod Packs for even more wild cards, unexpected twists, and rule-breaking mayhem. More cards! More surprises! More exclamation marks! More opportunities to look your best friend in the eyes and say, "I can't believe you just did that."

They say friendship is forever… but victory is foreverer.

Save 10% right now with your Battleon Battle Deck Card Game PRE-ORDER DISCOUNT at HeroMart and get CardClasher EVEN faster!

This pre-order works a little differently from our usual pre-orders. Your digital rewards will be delivered MUCH EARLIER than the physical cards. That's right! You won't have to wait for the deck to arrive at your door before receiving your in-game goodies.

The digital rewards will be sent out first, and the physical product will follow when the cards are ready to ship. Digital loot now, tabletop loot later! It’s kinda like getting dessert before dinner, except nobody can tell you to eat your vegetables first. CardClasher is back, the Battleon Battle Card Game is back, and your friendships are about to take some critical hits!

⚠️ Fine print: HeroMart and Artix Entertainment are not responsible for broken friendships, dramatic table-flipping, suspiciously convenient rule interpretations, or that one friend who suddenly claims they were “just testing your strategy bro.” Side effects may include uncontrollable trash-talking, weaponized alliances, paper cuts, puns that cut deeper, and an overwhelming urge to yell “REMATCH!” at 2am. Play at your own risk.

Mogloween Map Magic in the Myx

You know what makes a map memorable? All the little details! The atmospheric lighting. The spooky glows. The bats fluttering overhead like tiny winged agents of chaos. The subtle touches that make a location feel like a WORLD instead of a bunch of pixels standing around waiting for you to arrive.

Tutulio has been working on post-processing lighting effects, bats, glows, and the overall polish of the maps for Mogloween. These finishing touches help bring the environments to life, creating more depth and atmosphere for the places our Heroes will explore.

And just LOOK at the maps Aranx made. Hooolllyy chickencow!! Aranx has done a BEAUTIFUL job on the background maps for Mogloween, and we're excited to share these sights & frights with you.

The team is gearing up for this week's release, with TWO new maps done up right for everyone’s favorite spooky season. Add in the lighting, glows, bats, and all that atmospheric polish, and we've got the makings of a seasonally appropriate adventure ~and~ my next dramatic entrance.

Buuuut before we send you off to trick-or-treat, we need to talk about something VERY important. Something historic. Something that happened before some of you even knew what a Phoenix Blade was:

AQW’s first Mogloween was 18 years ago 😳

WHAT!? Who authorized this unauthorized time travel? Let's rewind the clock.

A Trip Down Spooky Memory Lane

Back when AdventureQuest Worlds was a brand-new adventure on the world-wide-web, Lore was still growing and players were still discovering all the strange, wonderful, and occasionally horrifying things our little world had to offer. And our first event ever was MOGLOWEEN!

Mogloween introduced players to the foggy, spooky town of Mystcroft, where haunted houses, creepy monsters, questionable lollypops, and seasonal surprises awaited brave adventurers. And, if you had ever played DragonFable, then you’d instantly recognize the familiar faces joining the festivities: Vampire Queen Safiria and the Cauldron Sisters!

Bubble, Toil, and Trouble are the magical candy-making sisters know a thing or two about potions, spells, sweets, and getting themselves into situations that require a Hero to swoop in and save the day. Their names are a delightful nod to the famous witches' chant from Shakespeare's Macbeth, but these sisters have plenty of personality of their own.

And what's a group of witches without some magical accessories?

Brooms? Probably. Pointy hats? Naturally. A giant enchanted cauldron? YOU BETCHA!

Meet Myx everyone, the Cauldron Sisters' enchanted cauldron. Now, you might think a cauldron's job is to sit around, bubble ominously, never rust for some reason, and occasionally produce something that smells like stomach, right? Not Myx! Myx is part of the sisters' magical candy-making operation, and in the original AQW Mogloween adventures, trouble came knocking at their Candy Shoppe. Monsters had invaded and the sisters needed help getting their candy-making business back on track!

Of course, the Heroes of Lore were ready to lend a hand. Because nothing says "heroic destiny" quite like rescuing a candy operation from a hoard of monsters. Some Heroes save kingdoms… some Heroes defeat ancient evils… and some Heroes save Halloween candy.

📣 ALL HEROES ARE IMPORTANT!! 📣

Mystcroft and Mogloween helped establish the Halloween atmosphere that would become a beloved part of AQW's seasonal traditions. Players could explore, fight monsters, collect rewards, and experience a little spooky mischief in Lore. And remember, this was all happening back in 2008, when AQW was just beginning its journey!

The Cauldron Sisters, Myx, Safiria, and the world of Mystcroft helped make that first Mogloween a memorable chapter in AQW history. And 18 years later… we're still celebrating!

Oh sure, the worlds have grown. The adventures have evolved. The gray hairs have become concerning. And the item collections have become... well, let's be honest, some of your inventories are probably a little terrifying all by themselves. But the heart of Mogloween remains the same:

A little mystery, a little mischief, a LOT of monsters, and a community of Heroes who keep coming back for more.

So here's to the first Mogloween, the Cauldron Sisters, Myx, Mystcroft, and every Hero who's ever ventured into AQWorlds looking for a treat and accidentally finding a boss fight instead and looovvved every second of it!

Makin' More Mogloween Memories

And that, dear Heroes, brings us to the end of our Battleon Briefing Vol. 15! Whether you've been with us since 2008 or just joined 8 minutes ago, THANK YOU for being here. Thank you for playing, sharing suggestions, cheering on the team, and for making these worlds worth creating. Sure, the team gets to build these adventures, but it's ~YOU~ who bring them to life 🥰

We cannot wait for you to experience Infinity’s first ever Mogloween this weekend! We know you’ll love exploring those maps, fighting them monsters, collecting all the loot (and candy), and making new memories that’ll last a lifetime.

Battle on!
