Battleon Briefing Vol. 12

Hiya heroes! AQW Infinity is getting closer to feeling like the Battleon you know and love, and behind the scenes the team has been putting the tools, systems, content, coffee, and general wizardry in place to make all that happen. So let’s see what’s been brewing!

Behind the Screens :p

One of the most important additions this week is something you will never even notice: staff flags! We added staff flags for pretty much everything you shouldn’t see (yet), helping make sure unfinished content does not accidentally slip out before it is ready… like it did before 👀

Tunik, Tutulio, Warlic, and Zhoom have also been hard at work getting things into place — and keeping them in place! — including some shop UI work, including:

  • seeing locked items and what requirements you need to unlock them
  • merging to combine items together and get something new
  • accessing all your Kickstarter rewards in one shop

None of this scrolling past 42 things you cannot ever have and making you ✨wish✨ you had those things. Just simply showing you your rewards :)

Daily. Weekly. Monthly. Questly?

Rhubarb and Warlic wrapped up the framework for Daily, Weekly, and Monthly quests, including systems for their turn-ins, resets, and frequencies. That means we now have the magic tools to start adding these special quest types to Infinity! Do you think we should also add a countdown timer thingy so you can see when the next quest comes due? Because otherwise I think it would play out something like this:

Daily quest = daily.

Weekly quest = weekly.

Monthly quest? … you guessed it: Tuesday. Wait — no! Monthly.

See? We have this under control. Probably.

The Root of All Humanity

PineOak created Humanoid NPCs and they’ve been added as non-combat NPCs! And yes, we are also wondering about the implications of a tree making humanoid NPCs.

Moglin Safe Servers

For those not indoctrinated in AQW lingo, a Moglin Safe Server is a canned-chat-only server, meaning only selection of pre-approved chat messages can be sent in-game. Moglin Safe Servers are basically less chat, more chill for our younger players (and our smoll Moglins too).

Thanks to Warlic, our Moglin Safe Servers are being set up! Because sometimes even Moglin needs a quiet place to exist without being immediately attacked by approximately 90 whispers.

Let the Moglins rest! They have widdle legs.

Flash vs Unity vs Spider

That honestly sounds like the superhero movie the world needs, huh?! Our very own super Spider started experimenting with an animation exporter from Flash to Unity using a proprietary tool he built himself. This is still in its infancy, but there is hope that this could eventually help us port all kinds of things into Infinity, because, apparently, you cannot simply point at Flash and yell “BECOME UNITY!” like I have done (and tried) (and failed) countless times.

I regret nothing!

Never Miss an Event

Pixel Pete has been working on mobile Event notifications, which will notify you when an Event goes live — that is ofc if you want to see those kind of things. But you should want that! Because sometimes the best way to make sure you do not miss an adventure… and to not yell “WHAT DO YOU MEAN it ended yesterday!?!?” …is to have it come gently knocking on your phone.

Miscellaneous Magic

We also have a bunch of smaller fixes and improvements going in, including:

  • special map movements that are, quite literally, out of this world
  • a new non-interactive NPC type, meaning players cannot select or interact with the NPC (hmm… they must be introverted… but I respect their boundaries)
  • more behind-the-scenes fixes that I wasn’t fast enough to finish typing before getting overly excited and promptly distracted by:

Star Swords!!!

Infinity’s first-ever Star Sword is getting closer to showtime! We are getting everything ready to bring this legendary weapon into the game. And, naturally, you cannot have a Star Sword without something suitably terrifying to swing it at. Enter…

THE DRAGONOID!

Because apparently a regular dragon was just not enough. Regular anything is never enough 😭

Last Week’s Release

Last week we released Aranx's new Pactogonal Knights into Infinity. And oh boy does it look ~and~ feel… Sir Perior.

Heh. GET IT? Superior.

I will be here all week.

Punfortunately.

This Week's To-Do List

There is a LOT happening, but here are the big things we’re working on this week:

1. Star Sword
Get the Star Sword release ready and out into the world!

2. Undead Invasion of Swordhaven
Ghost is finishing up cinematic and the team has gone through the remaining issues and made a list of what still needs to be finished. The undead have also been notified, and they are not amused.

3. Pirate Class Update
Bug fixes are currently in the works as the new Pirate Class continues to take shape. Shipshape. Thanks Immortal Joe, Nulgath, and Spider!

4. Gem Patterns
Rhubarb has added “Gem Pattern” functionality to the game, meaning monsters can start dropping gear with different stats! I hope one of those stats is caffeine, because mine’s running low.

5. SpellStones
The magic is brewing. The stones are spelling. And SpellStones are nearly here!

18 Years of AQW

And while Infinity continues marching toward the future, AQWorlds is celebrating its 18th birthday right now! EIGHTEEN YEARS. That is an absolutely ridiculous amount of adventuring.

We have fought undead armies. Battled dragons. Saved the world. Destroyed the world? And saved it again! And we are still here — and it’s all thanks to you!!

Welcome Home to Battleon

That is the goal behind all of this. It is not just about getting systems working or updating animations; it’s about making AQW Infinity feel like home. A home you grew up in. A home you never left. A home you want to log into — for the first time or the fifteen-hundredth time. A home where there is always something happening and always friends to chat with. A home where you can find an old favorite memory, discover something new, chase an item, fight a dragon or like a dozen, collect ridiculous armor, or just stand around Battleon looking fabulous.

The game may look new. The adventures may be newer. But Battleon? Battleon is home.

Welcome back home, hero.

Battle on!
