AQWorlds

It is 2025 and production of AQWorlds Infinity's remastered 13 Lords of Chaos Saga has officially begun. See how the art is being upgraded for this story. Sometimes... less is more.
Aranx has been doing "Glow ups" bringing old AQWorlds art from 15 years ago up to the way our modern art is being shaded.
The different is subtle... take a close look at the bottom of the old robe vs the bottom of the new robe. I love this attention to detail.
If you are like me, then you probably want to protect the original art. Which is why we are not changing the original art designs of items. Instead, we will be building new versions like the Staff of Inversion seen above. These new items will drop in AQWorlds Infinity only. (At least that is the plan as of now-- do not hold me to it.) Since the items go with you between games, you can use them in both versions of the game.
This is my favorite example of Aranx's art to date. It is also one of the game's oldest monsters. Just look at the new shading on the claws and tail. It certainly feels.... deadlier.
Nope. Nope. Nope.
It has been a while since my last post. (Sorry!) Since our last talk, a lot of progress has finally been made on stats, progression, cutscenes, our conversion process, and the structure of the game's repositories.
You have probably noticed by now that all of these images are from the 1st part of the 13 Lord of Chaos Saga. This is not by accident. We had a writers meeting to refine how we were going to convert/re-write the story. It is pretty straight forward. First we play through the story as it is. Then we create an outline. Then we make a list of assets.... and start gathering them up to be polished and converted.
In the original story, The Twins were... together... collectively Chaos Lord #2. It was weird because you saw them early on and then never heard of them again until the end of the story. This is because you could play the adventures in any order. I like the freedom of going anywhere. But I also like having a linear story with dynamic characters that can change over time. So, you are still going to be able to go anywhere (within reason) in AQWorlds Infinity. But the main story itself will be designed in order. The Twins will still appear as the second Chaos Lord... but they will likely ALSO appear in every other saga alongside Drakath... causing trouble and nudging you gently towards Chaos. This is the way they were originally intended to be written.
The main story of the existing AQWorlds has a lot of filler content in it. Especially the early parts. Are you OK with us just chopping that out? If the story is in order, we do not want any frustrating grinds blocking you from progressing. The main story should play pretty fast. We can always add bonus things to do in the areas that do not block the main story.
The combat progression we have been designing will ultimately span 100 levels. There will be a level cap that we set and raise each time new story content comes out that supports the new level. No surprises here. What is going to be really interesting is the first 20 levels. See, a level 1 player is going to be.... very weak. But a level 20 player needs to be extremely strong. So the power growth from 1 to 20 is going to be CRAZY.
This week, for testing purposes, we are starting to build a tower that goes all the way from level 1 to 100. Each floor you go up will have monsters that are 5 levels higher. The monsters in this tower will have CRAZY XP... allowing testers to level up in a very short period of time. Here we will test the progression of item drops, shops, and enhancement upgrades.
In our current design, your weapon's power comes from your enhancement. There are very subtle differences between this new version and AQWorlds. The first being that you will actually be able to understand the math XD. Second, weapons will drop with different damage, health, and stats. Early on, the stats (STR, DEX, INT, etc) on items will not contribute as much as the power built into whatever weapon you choose to use. But as you get higher level stats will become more and more valuable. This means you will have greater control in customizing your character the higher level you get.
Everything mentioned above is actually being implemented right now.... and as always, we will change things based on player feedback. You know the old saying, "No plan survives first contact with the player-base."
Neither AQWorlds nor AQ3D really went all-in on trade skills. Infinity is a really good opportunity to do it. We have been talking about a Blacksmithing/Weapon-forge trade skill where you could permanently increase the power of other player's weapons. Same with being able to become a pet tamer and using your skill to help improve other player's pets. Again, this is just something we are talking about-- but what do you think?
OK, the Frogzard in that image is just terrifying. Also, an accurate depiction of what I am going to look like after dinner. I am so hungry.
The images above perfectly illustrate the 80% same, 20% better philosophy. Kudos again to Aranx for his artwork. Nulgath has been animating these monsters and... oh man, they look so good. The next post should be filled with animated GIFs for you.
Not sure if you noticed, but this game is a little behind schedule to release. A little, lol? That is like saying it is just a little bit cold up North tonight. (Spoiler: It is freezing.) But if you played the Tech Demos then you already know what we are building, how far we already are, and the quality we are striving for. It should also be stated that.... AdventureQuest Worlds Infinity MUST release this year. I am not going to say "Do or die" because we are obviously already undead at this point. We are going to summon this thing like an undead apocalypse and hurl our horde at Steam & the Mobile App Stores. 90% chance we will do that Kickstarter first. I have a gloriously terrible idea... and if Kickstarter approves it, maybe we can make history. You still like it when we do crazy things, right?
If you would like me to start back up the daily updates, please let me know on whichever X, Facebook, or Instagram post you followed to find this post.
The first AQW Infinity test of 2025 is coming soon.
Battle on!
