AdventureQuest Worlds: Infinity Progress Update Post

Greetings and salutations,

Before we get to combat mechanics, how about we handle the 500lb Gorillaphant in the room. Boy, has it been a painful few weeks. George Lowe passed away.  We have had two important team members out due to family hospital emergencies. They say misery loves company-- and to back that statement up, I have had dozen or so other unfortunate events. But it is a Blood Moon tonight. (Which is just a reverse eclipse where the Sun is behind the earth casting a shadow over the moon... which makes the moon look giant and red-- but it has a freaking awesome name.) And If I know anything about Blood Moons (Spoiler: I do not. Never even heard the term before we did that Darkovia release in AQ3D.), I know that it sounds like a cool enough to event to say that THIS... is when things start to turn around. AQWorlds Infinity is our Moon-shot. Or.... is it our Blood-Moon Shot.

Combat Mechanics

"Fire!! Fire! Fire!"

"How to get a hot foot 101"

Spider, Immortal Joe, Yorumi, Nulgath, and Ghost  have been working on combat stuff including new new boss monster skills, new player attacks that use hit boxes, and stats. Here you can see the Fire Elemental telegraphing a screen wide fire attack. As a general rule... do not stand in the red if it can be helped.

"Ice to See you"

This Ice Elemental creates random areas where ice shards will fall when he slams his first. The red areas telegraph his attack to allow you time to use a defense skill or move. Setting up these kind attacks required a lot of up front work to build the systems. But we got them now!.  For example...

In addition to the monsters, Nuglath has been animating their combat FX. Here you can see the ice object in action. These self contained object are super versatile... and we can spawn a lot of them. See for yourself.

You are gonna need a CRYO-practor!

Even more impressive than the visual, is the node-based editing system that allows the devs to design these new monster skills.

"Darkness, my old friend"

Dark as the umbra the Moon will be entering in just a few hours.... at least from where I am sitting. The Shadow Elemental level is by far the creepiest. As you can see from the GIF above, there are still some glitches being fixed. Also some big ones. For example, if you die while using a skill that does not move... you stay locked in that position FOREVER. O_O. But the real test of this will be when you get to hop on and check it out. Our three big hold ups right now are cutscenes, combat fixes, and asset bundle stuff. We can talk more about that in the next post.

Until then...

Battle on!
